Carey Gully Random Wallers

Carey Gully Random Wallers are quite different to our Basket Range ones. They tend to be naturally flat, making them easier to dry stack and the colours range from dark browns to lighter greys.

Apart from being used in the garden, our Random Wallers are increasingly being used for building homes and interior feature walls.

Depending on the look you are trying to achieve, you will get approximately 1-1.5m2 / tonne for flat, bookleaf style and 2.5- 3m2 / tonne for standing on edge, crazy pave style.

We suggest dropping into the quarry to have a look at our products, as this is the best way to get an idea of the shape and colour of the stone.

Check out the Carey Gully website for more pictures and inspiration for your next project.

Basket Range Random Wallers

Basket Range Random Wallers are one of our most popular products and as you can see they are not just used in the garden but inside and outside the home as well.

They tend to be rounder in shape, making them better suited to laying with mortar. While it is possible to dry stack them, this does require a fair bit of work squaring up the stone.

You will get approximately 2.5-3m2 coverage from a tonne of Random Wallers, making this product one of our most economical for both building and landscape design.

If you are looking for a stonemason to lay the stone, please visit our website for a list of names and contact information. Any of them will be able to assist you with your next project.

Ian Watson – A1 Stonemasonry

Ian Watson from A1 Stonemasonry is a local stonemason based in the Adelaide Hills. We recently caught up with him to find out about his passion for stonework.

How would you best describe your business?
I am a one man band but on occasions will employ extra help if required. My work is generated by word of mouth eg: clients and suppliers.

How long have you been doing stonework?
I have worked with stone in the building industry for 30 years. As a young lad of 12 years of age I used to work with my brother on weekends at Wistow in a quarry.

How did you get into stonemasonry?
I worked for builders as a labourer who used stone on various house projects.

What do you enjoy most about working with stone?
I like the creativity of stone, the natural look and warmth of its appearance.

What do you find most difficult when working with stone?
Weather conditions are the main obstacle.

Can you tell us about some of the projects you are most proud of?
I enjoy working with Basket Range Sandstone. I have used their Random Walling stone in a lot of my jobs including whole houses, feature fireplaces and garden landscapes.

What would you like people to know about you and your business?
As I mentioned, I am a one man band and like to specialise in exotic or unique jobs that maybe no-one else would consider. My work speaks for itself and I have recommendations from numerous people.
